Education: RNs must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program. Some RNs also have a Master of Science in Nursing degree or a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree:

• An unencumbered and active RN license in New York State is required
• Applicants with previous experience in a skilled nursing environment are desirable

RN Job Summary:

A Registered Nurse (RN) is entrusted with the responsibility of planning and implementing nursing care for patients or residents seeking long-term or restorative care.

RNs must be able to quickly recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and allergic reactions:

• Observes the standards set by the Nurse Practice Act, facility guidelines, and intelligent nursing judgment to administer competent care.
• Assesses and plans the nursing care for patients/residents in need of rehabilitation or long-term care, and evaluates its effectiveness.
• Administering nursing-related care and attention to clients with long-term and/or rehabilitation needs.
• Executes the care plan for patients/residents and analyzes how they respond.
• Manages and supervises the nursing team in delivering high-quality care to patients.
• Helps to establish and assess standards for the quality of medical interventions.
• Keeps in mind all necessary documentation demands.
• Shows competency in the use and management of equipment such as monitors, drains, and infusion devices, and is adept at maintaining and setting up the same with precision and accuracy.
• Ensures that patient/resident confidentiality and rights are respected and maintained, with regards to any information regarding patients/residents/personnel.
• Imparts valuable information to patients, caregivers, or family members as deemed essential or as per instruction.
• Adheres to approved protocols and facility policies to maintain professionalism.
• Follows a work schedule that mandates taking turns working on different shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Required Education and Experience:

• Anyone aspiring to become a registered nurse must have completed a basic nursing education program at the undergraduate level.
• Individuals applying for this position should have a minimum of one year of work experience in medical/surgical nursing, preferably gained in an acute care setting such as a hospital or long-term care facility.
• The applicant should have a dependable mode of transportation.
